More and more young employees are opting for electric company cars. By the end of the year, PwC Belgium and MINI Belux will deliver a total of 200 brand new 100% electric MINIs to their starting employees. A total saving of 400 tons of CO2 emissions per year, which will allow PwC Belgium to achieve its ambition for an emission-free fleet 2 years faster.

In 2021, professional services provider PwC Belgium committed to reducing the emissions of its vehicle fleet by 20% every two years, with the ultimate ambition of net zero emissions by 2030. Thanks to the replacement of 200 BMW 1 series diesel cars with new electric MINIs, the professional services provider saves 400 tons of CO2 per year.

Diegem, 2 September 2024 - Those who can telework primarily do so in a hybrid manner. This trend is visible worldwide (58%), but is even more pronounced in Belgium. No less than 2 out of 3 Belgian teleworkers (68%) work partly at home and partly in the office. This is evident from a global study by PwC, which also surveyed 1,000 Belgian employees. “Flexibility is here to stay, but employees still want to feel involved. Along with learning opportunities, these are the main drivers to keep employees committed to the organization,” says Bart Van den Bussche, Partner, Reward Services at PwC Belgium.

Belgian video game industry recovers in 2023, but grows more slowly than expected 

Brussels, July 16, 2024 - The Belgian market for video games and esports grew by 1.5% to EUR 821 million in 2023, according to PwC's Global Entertainment & Media Outlook. This recovery indicates that the sector is on the rise again after a 6.1% decline in 2022. Growth is expected to accelerate further in the coming years. However, a contraction is anticipated again from 2027 onwards. Moreover, the Belgian video game industry is the slowest growing in the world. Despite the presence of high-quality game development education programmes in Belgium, many talented students are moving abroad due to an unattractive investment climate. The government is launching initiatives aimed at reversing this trend and making it more appealing for top professionals to use their talent in the Belgian market.

Diegem, June 25, 2024 - The number of employees considering a change of jobs is rising. The latest Hopes & Fears survey conducted by professional services provider PwC gathers input from 56,600 employees in 50 countries including 1,000 Belgian respondents. The findings show that employees feel they’re facing heavier workloads and experience a great deal of change in the workplace. However, this change is not universally perceived as positive – half of respondents, both in Belgium and globally, feel that too much change is happening at once. "Companies need to be aware of the impact that change has on the workplace and their employees. Guiding employees and addressing changes step by step is essential," says Axel Smits, Chairman of PwC Belgium.

Rise in AI Jobs and related 25% wage increases, exposes need for more AI training

Diegem, Belgium May 21, 2024 - More than half of Belgium's white-collar workers (53%) say they are not at all on board with AI and its applications. Yet PwC's Global AI Jobs Barometer 2024 shows that AI could allow many nations to break out of persistent low productivity growth, generating economic development, higher wages, and enhanced living standards. Jobs that require AI skills carry up to a 25% wage premium in some markets. However, according to the complementary iVox Survey commissioned by PwC Belgium , it appears that Belgian employers are still offering training on a limited basis. Only 1 in 6 (16%) employers offer training on working with AI. 2 in 5 Belgian white-collar workers say they expect more from their company when it comes to AI training. "AI is already reshaping our labor market today, and growth lies in adaptation and the fundamental ability to acquire new skills, which will be crucial for thriving in tomorrow's job market." says Serafine Vandebuerie, Workforce Partner PwC Belgium.

Diegem, 8th of March 2024 - Belgium’s gender pay gap is steadily closing, narrowing the difference in female pay to 4.5% compared to 5% in 2021. PwC’s latest Women in Work Index shows progress towards gender parity is still too slow; it will take more than half a century to close the gender pay gap at the current rate of change. “While Belgian companies may be slowly closing the pay gap, the challenges for women in our labour market remain high. It’s not only about equally rewarding the workforce but also about offering flexibility and creating an inclusive work organisation,” says PwC Belgium Chairman, Axel Smits.

Diegem, 8 February 2024 - As the public awareness grows around how CEOs are rewarded, Belgian listed companies are tending to review CEO remuneration more frequently and with greater scrutiny. According to PwC’s latest Corporate Governance & Executive Pay report based on 80 publicly listed companies in Belgium, shareholders are increasingly focussing on integrating ESG-related goals into executive compensation schemes. “As companies feel the public opinion breathing down their necks, a more modern and ESG-focussed approach to remuneration is crucial,” says PwC Belgium’s Chairman Axel Smits. Looking at the corporate governance, PwC notices how companies, although they recognise the necessity of diversity in the boardroom, are not always able to put their wishes into practice.
