In its transition to sustainable mobility, PwC puts into service Belux’ largest fleet of hybrid BMWs

Monday 22 November 2021 - This past weekend, PwC colleagues are swapping their cars for brand-new BMW X1 Plug-in Hybrid cars. With the addition of 540 BMW X1 Plug-in Hybrid cars, PwC Belgium is thereby taking on the largest fleet of plug-in hybrid company cars in the BMW universe. PwC is committed to making its fleet more environmentally friendly, as it makes up the majority of its total emissions. This move is a strategic part of PwC’s sustainable mobility strategy, to realise their net zero ambitions by 2030.

Upgrading to a fleet of plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles will allow for a substantial reduction in PwC’s annual carbon emissions. With this, PwC aims to foster a company culture based around sustainability and by investing in cleaner, greener vehicles, the firm is taking the next step for its people and clients alike. PwC Belgium wants to continue investing in sustainable mobility: it has set itself the additional goal of reducing emissions by 20% every two years, assuring that it will reach its net zero targets by 2030. PwC Belgium has already been carbon offsetting 100% of its fleet emissions, both for private and professional use, and 100% of air travel emissions.

PwC’s recent fleet policy offers its people alternative transport options, including the choice for a full electric car, leasing an e-bike, and the introduction of Modalizy, a mobility credit card, that offers the convenience and flexibility of switching between different forms of transport, such as public transport, bicycle hire, taxis and shared cars. A range of charging options allows drivers to charge the vehicles at work across the PwC office network, at home or at public charging points.

Axel Smits, Chairman of PwC Belgium: “This new investment represents a bold shift in how we’re upgrading our entire fleet with cleaner vehicles, while reaffirming our commitment to sustainable mobility. It’s yet another great step forward in reducing our overall carbon footprint as we recognise that reducing car CO2 emissions is key in reaching our net zero ambitions. The choice for BMW plug-in hybrids fits our vision and ambitions seamlessly.

Eddy Haesendonck, CEO of BMW Group Belux: “It’s thanks to clients like PwC that we are making our mobility more sustainable. They are, as ever, one of the pioneers when it comes to implementing our new technology in daily practice. This decision once again underlines the importance of plug-in hybrid technology as an important phase in the transformation towards sustainable electrification of the Belgian vehicle fleet; just think of the BMW eDrive Zones in the 10 largest Belgian cities, where all these hybrid BMWs automatically run 100% electrically.”

Bridging the AI Gap: youngsters and men use AI frequently, women and ‘more experienced’ workers are hesitant
Diegem, 14 May 2025 – According to a survey conducted by PwC Belgium, only one third of Belgian workers who spend at least an hour a day on a computer regularly use general AI applications like ChatGPT. Additionally, 40% of workers do not interact with these tools at all. For the second consecutive year, PwC Belgium surveyed 1,000 white-collar workers about their interaction with AI technologies. The survey indicated lower adoption rates among older employees and women for daily use of Generative AI. Surprisingly, the data shows that as employees spend more hours working on their computers, they tend to show less interest in using AI tools. Xavier Verhaeghe, Technology and Innovation Lead at PwC Belgium, states, “Although AI is becoming more prevalent in workplaces, a significant portion of the workforce has yet to embrace these technologies. Implementing AI tools and fostering an AI-driven culture are essential steps to harness the full potential of AI. Meanwhile, as the...
