Students get chance to test their AI skills
PwC runs AI escape game sessions in campus cities

30 March 2026, Diegem – Professional services provider PwC Belgium is launching an AI game to better understand the AI knowledge of recent graduates, and enable them to test their skills. In the next coming weeks, PwC will visit five university cities with its “Capture the AI-Flag", a distinctive gaming experience designed to assess students' understanding and proficiency in AI. Through this gamified approach, PwC aims to systematically incorporate AI maturity into its recruitment process. “AI is here to stay – our future employees must excel in their areas of expertise and have strong human skills while also engaging with AI responsibly and effectively. This initiative represents a major shift in our industry’s workforce, emphasising skills such as adaptability, critical thinking, and technological expertise.” says Liesbet Vanderstappen, HR Director at PwC Belgium.
In the coming weeks, PwC is organising five recruitment events in Ghent, Antwerp, Brussels, Liège and Leuven. For the first time, PwC is introducing its “Capture the AI Flag” to campus events. The PwC game, usually used with clients to test AI maturity in teams, is a hands-on, interactive AI challenge where real-world scenarios need to be solved. Students can team up with an AI buddy to find answers, but their judgment, curiosity and critical thinking determine how well they do in the game.
As AI is rapidly reshaping the future and also the professional services sector; PwC is introducing this AI gamification into its recruitment process to stay ahead of this transformation. “It’s no secret that what we expect from junior hires is fundamentally changing as AI automates and simplifies recurring tasks that were typically done by our junior staff. It frees up time to learn, to gain knowledge and insight,” explains PwC Belgium’s HR director Liesbet Vanderstappen. “We expect new hires to be embracing AI. More than ever before, openness to learn – and to learn fast and continuously – will be the new paradigm for services providers like PwC.”
Patrick Boone, Chairman of PwC Belgium, notes the widespread concern regarding the prospects for new graduates within the industry and beyond. “While there is clear demand for experienced and highly skilled professionals, this should not discourage the recruitment of motivated and driven recent graduates. It's important for organisations as well as educational institutions to develop an informed perspective on workforce shifts, and to collaborate on ensuring fresh graduates are ready for the changed working environment. Upskilling in technology and AI remains critical, along with fostering deep subject matter expertise, promoting critical thinking and supporting lifelong learning initiatives. People with drive and willingness to adapt will always be in demand, that’s for sure”
The events are open to students from all backgrounds and entrance is for free. Students can win an exclusive prize, obtain a certificate highlighting their commitment to continuous learning and enjoy networking opportunities with PwC consultants.
