Belgium accelerates towards a fully electric future in Q2 2026

16/09/2026 - Belgium's electric vehicle market continues to evolve, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) strengthening their position as the preferred choice for drivers. During the second quarter of 2026, BEV sales increased by 20% compared to the same period last year, reinforcing the country's ongoing shift towards fully electric mobility.

At the same time, plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) registrations declined by 37% year on year, suggesting that many consumers are increasingly choosing to transition directly to battery electric technology. While the overall electrified vehicle market remained stable, with EVs accounting for 54% of all registrations, the continued decline of traditional combustion engine vehicles highlights Belgium's steady progress towards electrification.

Belgian companies seek more local options and greater digital resilience, but remain heavily dependent on their critical suppliers

Brussels, 15 October 2026 – Belgian companies are responding more strongly to international tensions than their counterparts abroad. They want to bring their data and systems closer to home and reduce their dependence on a single supplier. However, companies seeking to leave their IT partner face contractual barriers and dependencies. These are the findings of the Belgian results from PwC’s 2027 Global Digital Trust Insights Survey, which surveyed almost 4,000 business leaders and IT decision-makers across 71 countries, including 75 in Belgium.
